Growing up my dad made it his mission to find the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. After countless Sunday afternoons spent experimenting with different ratios of baking powder, chocolate chips, and time spent in the oven, I can soundly declare the case to be closed. Our family recipe has been adapted from Neiman Marcus’ infamous $250 cookie recipe. Once we stumbled upon this recipe from the popularity it amassed from TikTok during Quarantine, it was almost as though the skies had parted, and down came the perfect foundation for a consistently delicious chocolate chip cookie. Although we largely follow the original recipe, there are some important modifications we stick to that have made all the difference. Here is exactly how we make our beloved chocolate chip cookies that we hope bring you as much joy as it has for us.
Ingredients
1 stick of salted butter
1 cup of dark brown sugar
1 cup of granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 cups of old-fashioned oats
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (Ghirardelli has been a long-time favorite of ours)
1 oz of whole milk
Preparation
1. Take the stick of butter out of the fridge and let sit until it reaches room temperature.
2. Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 Celsius).
3. Cream together the butter and both sugars in a large bowl, then stir in the eggs and vanilla extract.
4. Combine the oats, flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together in a separate smaller bowl. Once combined, slowly fold the dry mixture to wet ingredients with a spatula.
5. Fold in the mixture until just combined, and add the entire bag of chocolate chips into the mixture. After the batter has just come together, add a splash of whole milk to the batter and stir until evenly combined.
6. Scoop out into 1-inch balls and evenly distribute the batter onto a baking sheet. We use an ice cream scooper to make this process easier to manage.
7. Bake for 15 minutes and then get into those cookies ASAP!
8. We let them cool down for an hour and then store them in the freezer in large parchment-paper-lined ziplock bags.
Et voilà! Perfectly golden, chewy, sweet, and DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies.
