beauty hacks from my Swedish momma and esthetician grandma

All of the unconventional beauty tips and tricks I’ve accumulated throughout the years from my resourceful Swedish mother and board-certified-aesthetician grandmother.

If your eyes are irritated because something got in them, rub an ice cube around it for thirty seconds. Not only is this an easy and inexpensive way to clean out your eyes, but it’s also a great depuffer!

Olive oil is the perfect makeup remover. You seriously don’t need to buy makeup remover at the store if you have olive or even coconut oil in your kitchen. It breaks down your makeup while also keeping your skin hydrated. Just make sure you remove it with a warm washcloth and then wash your face after to prevent unwanted breakouts.

Spot concealing and applying pressed powder where needed will help you look much more youthful than wearing a full face of foundation. Less is more, and you can get the same even-toned look without having to put product all over your face. This is also a great hack if you prefer wearing ‘no makeup makeup’ looks.

Vitamin E is a great alternative to aloe vera when healing sunburns. It has both healing and calming effects that will help restore your skin in the long run.

Never pump the mascara wand in an attempt to get more product on it. This will rapidly dry it up. Instead, gently slap the *closed* mascara tube against the palm of your hand to disperse the product around the wand.

The perfect finger to use to disperse any product underneath your eyes is your ring finger. Your thumb, index, and middle fingers apply too much pressure, while your pinky not being able to apply enough. Since the skin underneath the eyes is very delicate, and not treating it properly can make you age quicker in that area.

As my Mimi always does, when in doubt, throw on a red lip!
