keyboard shortcuts for efficiency while typing

By

Even though this seems like an area of expertise that should be common knowledge by now, you would be surprised by the number of people who don’t know how much easier their lives can be with the help of a few shortcuts. And if you fall into the latter camp, heyyyyyy!

* Note that this post is written from the perspective of a Mac user, but the ‘Command’ key can be substituted for the ‘Ctrl’ key on Windows computers. *

* Also note that you don’t have to click the ‘+’ sign to complete these shortcuts, that’s just a way to organize the information. *

* Also also note that you need to highlight the information you want to do something with before performing these functions. *

Command + K: attach a link to a statement of text rather than having to type something out and separately attach a link to something (like this linking to the most recent LPOL post).

Command + C: copy / duplicate a statement of text instead of having to manually click on ‘Copy’ typically found in the ‘Edit’ dropdown of applications.

Command + X: cut / remove a statement of text to be placed somewhere else without copying it

Command + V: paste the statement of text that you either copied or cut

Command + Z: undo whatever mess you just made

Command + S: save the current iteration of a file that you’re working on

While we’re on the topic of making your life with technology easier, some computer accessories that have made my time WFH more efficient include the following:

Laptop stand

Wireless & keyboard mouse

Dual monitor
