m&ms

By

the -uary months are for m&ms…..and i’m not talking about the candy.

i’m talking about MUSEUMS & MOVIES!

over the past four weeks, i’ve averaged seeing one new movie and visiting one new exhibit a week, which has helped to sharpen my cultural understanding of the world, while also serving as a great way to pass the time while staying warm indoors.

lets break it down.

MUSEUMS

The Met

an Uptown staple with never-ending objects of wonderment. i could spend hours there without even realizing it. free to NYC residents!

Guggenheim

not only is the building filled with works of art, but the establishment is a work of art in and of itself. the level of curation is unmatched.

The New York Public Library (Stephen A. Schwarzman Building)

the main floor is home to many unique treasures, like the original Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animals. i was a huge fan of the New Yorker exhibit, which is running until February 21st.

The MOMA

a great way to spend a snowy weekend. the 5th floor was my favorite, and is home to notable pieces from Warhol, van Gogh, and Dalí.

MY TOP PICK: The Guggenheim

MOVIES

the skyline view from our neighborhood theatre (nbd) (also i realize this is a terrible photo and it’s making me question if my phone has astigmatism).

Zootopia 2: don’t let this movie’s intended audience of children fool you. our theatre at AMC Village 7 was packed with only adults and it had us laughing for almost two hours. i already want to see it again and believe it to be very deserving of an Oscar this season.

Hamnet: i saw this by myself at Village East by Angelika on a rainy Saturday night when i didn’t make any plans, and this is one of the best stories i’ve seen unfold on the big screen in a while. one of my favorite songs to cry to, “On the Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter, started playing at the end and i couldn’t help but let the floodgates of tears loose for the third time that night.

Housemaid: now this was a true thriller filled with so many plot twists my mind couldn’t keep up at times. so much so that me and Chloe had to cover our eyes with our scarves when things took a turn for the worse.

Knives Out – Wake Up Dead Man: i spent a very relaxing Saturday night in with my roommates ahead of the snowstorm this past weekend, and it had our jaws on the floor for the majority of the movie. and dare i say this is the best installment of the Knives Out series.

MY TOP PICK: Hamnet

MENTIONS (honorable)

had to include one last m

Summer House: my roommate Chloe picked the show back up so of course i had to give her some company! and while it is a reality TV show, it has much less screaming than a Bravo Housewives show, so it’s fine to play in the background while working from home.

the Monet Exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum: we (i mean me) also really wanted to see the Monet water lilies before they left the Brooklyn Museum, but it was of course sold out the one Saturday we tried to go. now we have an excuse to go to France to see the real thing.

BonBon candy: the perfect snack to sneak into the theaters.

stay warm out there!!

💘, HANNA
