the perfect way to show a visitor around the city or spend a “sick day”
THE ROUTE

a multi-borough bakery crawl is such a fun way to simultaneously try new spots while exploring different neighborhoods. we started in the East Village and made our way south into Brooklyn via the Bridge in between Stop #2 and Stop #3. while getting to and from Manhattan is super easy via the subway and Uber, if you’re in the mood to rack up thousands of steps and be outside for the majority of the day, walking to each spot and getting to Brooklyn via the Brooklyn Bridge is a scenic route you won’t forget. i would also recommend doing said bakery crawl in the morning on a weekday to avoid long lines to maximize your time.

STOP #1: Hani’s bakery + café
a cozy East Village bakery known for inventive pastries, fluffy cakes, sandwiches and their viral seasonal drinks
what you HAVE to get: the zucchini chocolate muffin
what i would try if i went back: one of their sandwiches

STOP #2: Justin’s Salt Bread
a Korean bakery specializing in buttery, fluffy and perfectly crispy salt bread
what you HAVE to get: the salt bread + iced salt latté
what i would try if i went back: the matcha dipping cream

STOP #3: L’Appartement 4F
a spot famous for its croissants and Parisian café atmosphere
what you HAVE to get: Croissant à Tout
what i would try if i went back: Baguette à Tout, or Le Framboise if i didn’t have a nut allergy

STOP #4: Thea
a neighborhood café offering seasonal pastries and elevated coffee drinks with lots of lunch options
what you HAVE to get: their homemade rose soda + a pastry
what i would try if i went back: Bánh Mì Falafel

STOP #5: Radio Bakery
a cult-favorite bakery serving laminated pastries, naturally leavened breads, and some of the city’s most talked-about sandwiches
what you HAVE to get: the cheesy pretzel bearclaw and brown butter corn cake
what i would try if i went back: the sweet pea & feta sandwich or shakshuka focaccia slice
